Bata India records strong growth in profit in Q1-2009

New Delhi, April 24, 2009: Bata, India’s leading footwear retailer and manufacturer today announced its financial results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2009. The Company posted a 6.8% growth in revenue at Rs. 23,303.2 lacs as against a revenue of Rs. 21,819.9 lacs in the same period last year. The Profit before Tax grew 27.1% at Rs. 1,623.5 lacs as against a PBT of Rs. 1,276.9 lacs in the same period last year.
“In today’s challenging market, Bata has performed remarkably. Our strategy of opening large format stores has been successful and we continue to invest in expanding our retail business. Along with this, we have also focused upon providing our customers with a new trendy collection and better shoe designs. Our value pricing, coupled with improved customer service, has helped us to grow.” said Mr. Marcelo Villagran, Managing Director, Bata India Limited.
Bata India continues to show a marked growth in the current economic scenario and opened 32 new retail stores and also renovated 3 existing stores in the 1st quarter of 2009. These new stores are based on the international format of Bata Stores and have an minimum area of 3000 sft.
Primarily located in Tier 1 & 2 cities, such as Kota, Jodhpur, Ludhiana, Kakinada, Berampur, Mandya, Gangtok, Hassan, Hubli, Ahmednagar, Nasik, and many others, apart from the metros, these new stores have helped Bata in bringing to its customers in these small cities, its new contemporary and trendy range of footwear sold in an international style outlet.
The Company also launched its new Spring Summer Collection in its stores, offering several new trendy designs targeted at the young customers, under its famous brands such as Marie Claire, North Star, Power and Weinbrenner.
